Arrest History in Pierce County
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office makes arrests in unincorporated areas and places that contract for sheriff service. Tacoma, Lakewood, Puyallup, Fife, and other cities have separate police agencies. Washington State Patrol handles its own state-route and enforcement events, while campus, transit, and tribal agencies may create other arrest records. The holder of the incident report is the agency that made or investigated the arrest, not automatically the Sheriff.
If a person enters Pierce Corrections, the jail creates a Pierce County booking and custody file. The court creates a separate case only if a prosecutor files charges. Fingerprints and arrest data may then flow to the Washington State Patrol's WASIS repository, where a reported disposition can later connect to the arrest cycle. Those Pierce County records can differ for a time because each office records a different stage.
Find a Current Pierce County Booking
The free LINX jail roster is the main person-level route for current Pierce County Corrections custody. A reader can display the full Pierce County roster or search by name in last-name, first-name order. The product says released people are not included. A new Pierce County intake may also take time to appear. Call the jail when a very recent booking is missing or the identity is uncertain.
| Roster control | Type | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display Current Pierce County Corrections Jail Roster | Link or button | No | Returns the full current roster |
| Name | Text | No | Accepts last name, first name for current custody |
| Search | Button | Yes for name path | Submits the person query |
Record the booking date, charge, charging agency, court jurisdiction, court date, and any linked cause number. Those fields route the next search. They do not prove guilt or show the full police narrative.
How to Look Up Pierce County Arrests
No single portal contains a complete Pierce County arrest history. Use the free Pierce County custody view first for a recent booking, then follow the arresting agency and court trail. The statewide repository is useful for its defined public product, while a public-record request reaches releasable reports and historical administrative material. Each Pierce County channel has a limit.
- Search the current LINX roster by last name, first name, or display the full roster. Call Pierce Corrections at 253-798-4590 if a very recent admission has not appeared.
- Identify the arresting agency. Request a Sheriff report from the Public Disclosure Unit, a Tacoma report through South Sound 911, or a city report through the city that made the arrest.
- Match the booking to the court. Search LINX for a Superior Court felony and Washington Courts or the municipal court for a misdemeanor filing.
- Use Washington Access to Criminal History only when its statewide public conviction and recent pending-disposition response fits the question. Each search costs $11, even without a match.
- Submit a narrow formal request when the online sources do not supply the report. Give the incident number, date range, location, involved person, and exact record component.
- If the person left the roster, check the release field, court disposition, DOC Incarcerated Search for state custody, and VINELink for custody-status notices.
Pierce County Arrest Reports Take Different Routes
South Sound 911 is the official regional records hub for participating law-enforcement agencies, but the incident agency still matters. Tacoma Police reports begin with South Sound 911's public-record request. Lakewood Police uses its official report-copy route and city disclosure channel. Puyallup Police has a separate city portal. University Place contracts with the Pierce County Sheriff, so its sheriff report goes to the county Public Disclosure Unit.
| Agency | Arrest record channel | Published contact |
|---|---|---|
| Pierce County Sheriff | County Public Disclosure Unit, online or email | 253-798-7530 |
| Tacoma Police | South Sound 911 public records | 253-287-4455 nonemergency |
| Lakewood Police | Police report-copy or city disclosure channel | 253-830-5000 |
| Puyallup Police | City public-record portal | 253-841-5415 |
| Washington State Patrol | WSP records and collision-report system | Use the official WSP record route |
Ask for the incident report, CAD chronology, 911 audio, photo, or video that is actually needed. Body-camera and 911 files may need close review and redaction. Active investigations, victim details, juvenile information, health content, and tactical material can be withheld in whole or part under state law.
What an Arrest Record Shows
A full Pierce County agency arrest report can contain the event time and place, legal basis, officer identifiers, alleged offenses, probable-cause narrative, evidence references, transport, and subject identifiers with protected data removed. Pierce County's public jail roster is much narrower. It shows the public custody fields allowed by state law, while the broader Pierce County jail file remains confidential.
| Booking Identifier | A jail control number used to match custody material; it should never be guessed. |
|---|---|
| Booking Date | The date of admission to custody, not the conviction date. |
| Arresting or Charging Agency | Routes the reader to the office that holds the incident report. |
| Charges | Allegations recorded at booking, which can change before or after prosecutor filing. |
| Warrant, Court Date or Bail | Public routing and release information when shown in the roster. |
| Booking Photo Policy | Pierce treats booking photographs as confidential inmate records under RCW 70.48.100. |
| Sentence or Release Date | Custody fields that require confirmation against the court docket. |
The Pierce County public roster does not advertise medical or classification details, housing pod, full date of birth, or a public booking photograph. Those omissions reflect the statutory boundary, not proof that Corrections never collected the information.
No Pierce County Mugshot Gallery
Washington law makes jail records confidential except for a defined public subset. The Pierce County Sheriff specifically lists booking photos among protected inmate records under RCW 70.48.100. The roster can disclose the inmate name, booking date, charge, warrant type, charging agency, court jurisdiction and date, sentence date or bail, sentence or fine, and release date. It does not operate as a public photo gallery.
A confidential Pierce County inmate record goes to the inmate, a person holding the inmate's signed authorization, or a recipient with a court order. Health records require a separate signed healthcare authorization or a judge's order. This rule prevents a public roster search from becoming a substitute for the protected jail file.
Note: A public booking row confirms recorded custody and allegations, not guilt, identity beyond doubt, or the final result of a charge.
Pierce County Booking Intake Creates Records
Pierce Corrections operates the Main Jail at 910 Tacoma Avenue S. and the New Jail at 701 Nollmeyer Lane. After an arresting agency transports a person, staff confirm identity and legal authority, inventory property, create photographs and fingerprints, enter the charges and court or warrant authority, screen health and security needs, and assign housing. Some of those steps produce confidential operational or health data even though a short public row appears in LINX.
A person held after a warrantless arrest generally must receive a prompt judicial probable-cause determination, no later than 48 hours under Washington CrR 3.2.1. The court calendar, not an informal roster estimate, is the sound source for a first appearance. Bail, bond, and release conditions come from the individual court order. Release can follow bail, recognizance, disposition, sentence completion, or transfer, so the reason must be checked in the Pierce County court and custody records.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
LINX is a current-custody roster. A name can roll off after release, so absence does not establish that no Pierce County arrest occurred. The court docket, incident report, and state repository may retain other lawful records of the event. A transfer after sentencing can also move the person from the county roster to the Washington DOC search. VINELink adds custody-change notices but does not replace the official case file.
Pierce County also publishes a historical data resource. The official Criminal Justice Jail Booking Data page covers Corrections admissions since January 2010, includes arresting-agency views, and was updated in July 2026.
The dataset is useful for trends and agency context, not for calling bookings convictions. Counts can include repeat admissions by the same person and should not be turned into a county crime rate without matching definitions and population data.
Pierce County Jail Files Need Authorization
The Sheriff's Public Disclosure Unit accepts online requests and email at publicdisclosure@piercecountywa.gov. A narrow request should state the person, incident or booking identifier if known, date range, location, and exact record sought. The unit receives inmate authorization forms by mail or fax. The Washington Public Records Act requires an initial response within five business days that produces records, gives a reasonable estimate, seeks clarification, or cites the basis for denial.
Published county fees are $0.15 per printed page, $0.10 per page to scan paper, $0.10 per gigabyte of electronic production, and actual device cost plus postage for media. The jail page separately lists CD or DVD at $1.15 per disk plus postage. Payment comes before release. An unpaid, unclaimed, or unreviewed request can be treated as abandoned after 30 days.

Pierce County Sheriff App Adds Shortcuts
The Sheriff's official July 2024 app announcement introduced “Pierce County Sheriff WA.” The announcement advertises an inmate roster, sex-offender search, crime and report links, Crime Stoppers tips, and push alerts. It is a mobile route to sheriff information, not proof of an independent or more complete arrest-history database.
The app can speed access to official shortcuts when using a phone. The LINX roster, originating police report, court docket, and Public Disclosure Unit remain the records that answer custody, incident, prosecution, and confidential-file questions. No separate app-only warrant database is claimed.
Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest entry and a conviction record are created by different offices and prove different things. The arresting agency records its grounds and investigation. Corrections records admission and custody. The prosecutor may decline, amend, or file charges. Only a court can enter a judgment of conviction. The public WATCH response later reflects the limited statewide information reported to the Washington State Patrol.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Arresting agency and jail | Court clerk after a plea or verdict |
| What it proves | An arrest or booking was recorded | Guilt was established on a charge |
| Where it lives | Agency report system and custody file | Court case file and reported repository history |
| Possible next event | Release, no filing, amendment, or court charge | Sentence, appeal, or later statutory vacation |
An arrest is not proof of guilt. Read the Pierce County court docket and final charge-level disposition before describing the outcome.
A roster disappearance also proves little by itself. The person may have been released, transferred, or moved under a court order. The Pierce County criminal court case record supplies filed charges and the judicial result, while the DOC locator answers state-prison custody after a transfer.
